Erdogan’s election posters provoked a reaction in Germany: he came to the streets of Germany

As the international public focused on the results of the elections to be held on May 14, the election campaigns in Germany created a major crisis.

News in Bild, one of Germany’s most widely read newspapers, included the repercussions of President Erdogan’s permission to hang election posters.

Although attention was drawn to the fact that there are posters on many streets in Nuremberg, it was commented that “Erdogan’s AKP posters are also hanging at the central train station”. The deputy of the Greens in the Bavarian State Parliament, Cemal Bozoğlu, said: “Some AKP posters have been removed, but it is not clear if this is because the municipality changed its decision.” The Bild newspaper, on the other hand, said: “But this question stuck in my mind, why are there election posters in Germany for the elections in Turkey? There are very strict conditions even for local elections,” he commented.

“NOT ALLOWED IN 2017”

While it was noted that the posters in Germany received a huge reaction on Twitter, German human rights activist Beck said: “In 2017 the German Ministry of the Interior didn’t allow posters, but now they do. Elections in Türkiye have no place on our streets. Turkish parties enjoy their privileges in Germany,” he said. “Public space is used for posters for the enemy of light, minority rights and women’s rights,” Beck said.
