Sudanese Army: Rebels’ attempt to seize power failed
The Sudanese Army declared that the “rebels'” attempt to seize power had failed, stating that “members who fought for national dignity honorably discharged their duties with perseverance and confidence.”
“The conspiracy was large and planned by parties at home and abroad, but the chains broke under the weight of the perseverance and determination of the men of the armed forces,” the army said in a statement. In the statement, which stated that what the Rapid Support Forces (HDK) were doing was a “project to usurp the State”, the following was indicated:
“In the last two weeks, the rebels’ attempt to seize power has failed. This is a war without false neutrality. Soon, the survival of the Sudanese state and its entrenched institutions and the project of defeating our country forever will come to an end and result in victory.”
Claiming that the war united the people and the armed forces, the statement argued that the rebels and their agents inside and outside the country failed in all their attempts to deceive the people, falsify the truth and buy people off. The statement included the following statements:
“The time for reckoning with scoundrels selling their country for cheap profit has drawn near. The people will expel those who kill their children, usurp their assets and destroy their institutions. Very soon Khartoum will celebrate its Victory Day and the worst period in the country will be closed.”
The army reiterated its call on HDK members to “once again join their ranks and surrender to the nearest military zone.”
Armed clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the HDK on the morning of April 15 in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and other cities. The disagreement between the army and the HDK over the military security reform, which provides for the “full participation of the HDK in the army”, had become a hot-button conflict in recent months.
Sudan’s Ministry of Health reported that 512 people were killed and 4,193 injured in clashes between the army and the HDK that began on April 15. The army and the HDK announced that they decided to extend it by 72 hours from midnight on April 28, with the efforts of Saudi Arabia and the US. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
