Former US Vice President Mike Pence appeared in court on Thursday to testify in a case against his former boss Donald Trump.
The case concerns Trump’s role in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 and his alleged attempts to undermine the outcome of the presidential election. According to US media reports, Pence was in court in Washington for more than seven hours.
I tried to avoid testimony
On the day of the assault, Pence had to ratify the election results, in his role as president of the Senate. Trump and his supporters wanted him not to because they believed the election had not been fair. Pence was summoned to speak about what he discussed with Trump before the storming of the Capitol.
It is one of many investigations and cases pending against Trump. The former president tried unsuccessfully to stop Pence from testifying in court. Previous attempts to prevent the testimony had also failed.
