UN Taliban decision! Bill approved
The bill, jointly introduced by Turkey, was unanimously approved by all 15 members of the United Nations Security Council. The resolution called on the Taliban administration to quickly “return” the bans on women.
The decision, which drew attention to the fact that such bans violated human rights, condemned the Taliban administration’s decision to ban women from working at the UN.
While emphasizing the essential role of women in Afghan society, the resolution calls on the Taliban administration to restore women’s education, employment, freedom of movement and equal participation in public life.
In the resolution, which stressed the importance of dialogue, consultation and compromise between the Afghan parties and the international community, diplomatic efforts in this direction were welcomed.
The draft resolution prepared by the United Arab Emirates and Japan required at least 9 votes.
BANS ON FEMALE TALIBAN STAFF
With the arrival of the Taliban in the administration of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, serious restrictions were placed on the work of women and the education of girls in the country.
Girls were prevented from receiving an education in secondary and high schools first, and in universities in December 2022. Also in December, Afghan women were suspended from working in local and foreign non-governmental organizations.

Following the decision to suspend the education of female students, the Taliban suspended the employment of female staff in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on December 24, 2022 until further notice. It was noted that the licenses of NGOs that did not dismiss female staff would be revoked.
