Russia: The United States and France failed to mediate between Armenia and Azerbaijan

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mariya Zakharova said the United States and France have failed in their mediation role to improve relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Zaharova made remarks on current affairs at her weekly press conference in the capital Moscow. Referring to the situation in the Lachin Corridor in the Karabakh region, Zaharova said that the necessary measures have been taken to resolve the situation in accordance with the tripartite declaration signed by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2020. Zaharova emphasized that “ it is important that Armenia contributes to finding mutually acceptable solutions to this situation”.

When asked about the possibility of a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the capital Moscow, Zakharova said: “I agree to the meeting. The meeting date will be announced in the future,” she said.

‘THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN PEACE’

Zaharova also assessed the positions of Western countries on improving relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, saying: “The representatives of France, especially the European Union (EU) and the US, requested the role of ‘honest mediator’ in the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan. If we look at the current situation, they failed in that regard,” she said.

Pointing out that these countries are not interested in establishing peace in the South Caucasus, Zaharova said: “The real initiatives of Washington and Paris are based on politics and conjuncture. “There is no concern for the fate of the region’s peoples in their plans,” she said.

Referring to the situation in Sudan, Zaharova expressed concern about the conflicts here, saying: “We call on the parties to the conflict to show political will and restraint and take urgent steps for a ceasefire.” saying.

On the attempts of the G7 countries to ban exports to Russia, Zaharova stressed that “in case new sanctions are implemented, they will give the necessary response.” Spokeswoman Zakharova said: “Possible new restrictions on Russia will undermine accepted principles in the field of international trade. Losses from this don’t bother the US because they will mostly hit EU countries. Is anyone in Washington thinking about other countries?” she used her statements. (AA)
