Voting begins in Germany and France

Voters in 16 cities in Germany, where the largest number of voters outside of Turkey are located, began voting for the president and the 28th term parliamentary elections to be held in Turkey on May 14 from 09:00 local time.

Those who wanted to cast their ballots formed long queues in front of the Turkish Consulate General in Cologne early in the morning. Voters began to deposit their votes in 12 ballot boxes installed in the Consulate General of Colonia.

Turkey has consulates general in Germany in Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover, Münster, Essen, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Mainz, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Munich, and Nuremberg.
In addition to these cities, additional ballot boxes were set up in Aachen, Bremen and Regensburg, where Turkey has honorary consulates.

MOST VOTES ARE IN GERMANY AND FRANCE

Voting procedures have started in 6 cities in France. While Turks in France start voting at polling stations in Paris, Marseille, Strasbourg, Lyon, Nantes and Bordeaux from 09:00 local time, Turkish voters in these cities will be able to vote until May 9 at the first round.

Turkish voters living in France will also be able to vote in the cities of Mulhouse, Clermont-Ferrand and Ingre between April 29 and May 1.

In France, where around 800 thousand Turkish citizens live, there are 397 thousand 86 Turkish voters. Turkey’s ambassador in Paris, Ali Oner, is scheduled to visit a total of 9 polling stations in France during the first round of the elections.

While ballot papers in France are scheduled to be sent to Turkey by air on May 10, the vote count will take place in Turkey on May 14.

In 2018, in the 27th term presidential and general elections in Turkey, 47.3% of Turkish voters living in France went to the polls.

According to data from the Supreme Elections Tribunal (YSK), the country with the highest number of voters was Germany with 1,501,152. Germany was followed by France with 397,086 voters and the Netherlands with 286,753 registered voters. (AA)
