Chinese President Xi Jinping has promised to send delegates to mediate the conflict in a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelensky. Zelensky called it a “long and meaningful telephone conversation”.
According to Chinese media, Xi stressed that the crisis has had a major impact on the world and that Beijing has always been in favor of peace. Xi urges a ceasefire and peace negotiations to be held as soon as possible. China will soon send a special envoy to Ukraine to discuss a solution with all sides.
Any way out
Zelensky, in turn, hopes it will give a strong boost to relations between the two countries. “I believe that this talk, as well as the appointment of the ambassador of Ukraine to China, will give a strong impetus to the development of our bilateral relations.” According to CCTV, Xi Jinping said that “talks and negotiations” were the “only way out” of the war.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying posted a series of statements on Twitter.
China has been consistent and clear in its willingness to develop bilateral relations with Ukraine. Both sides should continue the tradition of mutual respect and sincerity and further develop the strategic partnership between China and Ukraine.”
“When it comes to the crisis in Ukraine, China is always on the side of peace. China’s main position is to facilitate peace talks.”
China did not cause the Ukrainian crisis and is not part of the crisis. As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a responsible large country, China would not stand by and add fuel to the fire, let alone exploit the situation to its advantage.’
Everything China does is over the table. Dialogue and negotiations are the only way forward.’
“As rational thinking and voices are rising, it is important to seize the opportunity and create favorable conditions for a political solution to the crisis.”
“It is hoped that all parties will seriously consider the crisis in Ukraine and jointly seek ways to bring lasting peace and stability to Europe through dialogue.”
“China will send the Chinese government’s special representative for Eurasian affairs to Ukraine and other countries to initiate in-depth communication with all parties on the political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.”
“China has provided humanitarian assistance to Ukraine on several occasions and will continue to provide assistance to the best of its ability.”
