Final results of extraordinary local elections in northern Kosovo announced
The final results published by the Kosovo Central Election Commission (KQZ) did not differ from the results that were first made public. Consequently, the municipalities of Northern Mitrovica and Leposavic were won by the Decide Yourself Movement (Vetevendosje), led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, while the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) won the municipalities of Zveçan and Zubin Potok.
Erden Atiq who got 66.9% and 553 votes in North Mitrovica, Lulzim Hetemi who got 73.5% and 100% of the votes in Leposavic, Ilir Peci and Zubin Potok who got 59% and 114 votes, and 52.2% in Zveçan. İzmir Zeqiri, who received 197 votes, will be mayor.
After the final results are announced, political parties and candidates have the right to appeal to the Kosovo Electoral Complaints and Appeals Panel (PZAP) and then to the Kosovo Supreme Court within 24 hours.
KQZ announced that 1,567 (3.47 percent) of the region’s 45,095 registered voters voted in the special local elections.
KOSOVO SERIES BOYCOTTED LOCAL ELECTIONS
The Serb List, the largest Serb party in Kosovo, did not participate in the local elections and called on Kosovo Serbs to “boycott the elections”.
Only Sladjana Pantovic, an independent candidate for mayor of Zveçan, participated in the Kosovo Serb elections, with Pantovic receiving 5 votes.
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani declared that local elections in the northern municipalities of Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Leposavic and Zveçan, which were previously scheduled for December 18, 2022, following the withdrawal of Kosovo Serbs from the institutions central and local meetings in Kosovo, were postponed to April 23 due to the dangerous security situation in the north of the country, it had reported.
