It is becoming more and more difficult for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get in touch with Dutch citizens residing in Sudan. “Problems with telephone connections and internet connections in the country are increasing”, reports the ministry.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is doing everything possible to keep the Dutch in Sudan informed about the security situation in the capital Khartoum and possible evacuation options. This can be done by phone, email, WhatsApp and SMS. “We will continue to try this.” It is unclear how many Dutch people currently live in the country.
Second flight
On Monday afternoon, a second Dutch flight carrying displaced people left Sudan for Aqaba in Jordan. It is not known how many people are on board. Minister Wopke Hoekstra earlier said that sixty Dutch people have been evacuated from Sudan.
Heavy fighting broke out in Sudan between the government army and militias in Khartoum in mid-April. There is also fighting in various places outside the area. Earlier, the ministry announced that more than 150 Dutch people had turned up for evacuation. Participation in the evacuation is voluntary, Hoekstra previously wrote in a letter to the House of Representatives.
