Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong filed a complaint with the South Korean ambassador to China. Al-Jazeera writes it. Sun would disagree with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s comments on Taiwan.
China’s foreign ministry called Yoon’s comments “totally unacceptable,” said Sun, who also expressed his “strong disapproval” of South Korea. It is yet another chapter in the diplomatic dispute between Beijing and Seoul, which arose after a Reuters interview with Yoon. In it, you said that the rising tension around Taiwan was solely due to forced Chinese attempts to change the status quo and that you opposed it.
The South Korean president also said the conflict between China and Taiwan had become a global problem, rather than a conflict between “just China and Taiwan”. He also compared how the world sees North Korea.
disapproval
China strongly disapproved of the wording and comparisons, the foreign ministry said. “The South Korean leader never mentioned the single China policy and compared the Taiwan issue to that of North Korea,” a statement read. “However, North Korea and South Korea are sovereign states that are both members of the United Nations.”
Since this is not the case in Taiwan, China does not think the comparison makes sense. “The conflict with Taiwan is in no way comparable.”
