Eyewitnesses who spoke to El País, one of the country’s most widely read newspapers, said the flames got out of control when a waiter set the served pizza on fire as customers wanted to put on a show. It was said that during the burning pizza show, the fire spread to the ceiling and then to the entire place.
The authorities also stressed that since the restaurant where the fire occurred is close to the regional fire brigade, it was possible to intervene quickly. Explaining that the fire started near the front door of the restaurant, the officials also said that it was very difficult to leave the place because of that. Police announced that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
