Impressive report on homelessness in England

A homeless person dies every 6.5 hours in England and Wales, according to the report by the London-based NGO Homelessness Museum.

While 85 percent of those who lost their lives on the streets were under the age of 65, 1,313 people were reported to have lost their lives on the streets last year.

The report noted that this number is 85 percent more than the deaths in 2019 and 20 percent more than in 2021.

THE NUMBER OF DEATHS MAY BE HIGHER

The report emphasized that the number of deaths could be higher because some mayoralties and district municipalities did not provide sufficient support regarding the figures, citing cuts in health and the fight against addictions as the cause of deaths.

The report stated that 36 percent of the deaths were due to drug and alcohol addiction and 10 percent to suicide.

In the report, it was shared that the number of homeless people who lost their lives in 2022 is 295 in London, 50 in Glasgow and 25 in Liverpool. (AA)
