Guns don’t stop in Sudan, loss of life mounts

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), reported that the number of people who have lost their lives due to the ongoing clashes between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (HDK) in Sudan is approaching. at 300.

Ghebreyesus shared on his Twitter account about the conflicts in Sudan. Stating that the situation in the country has become more worrying and deplorable, Ghebreyesus said: “(In the conflicts in Sudan) approximately 300 people have lost their lives and more than 3 thousand people have been injured so far. “I condemn all the casualties, especially the attacks on civilians and health services,” he said.

Ghebreyesus also mentioned that the news of forces occupying health facilities in Sudan is alarming, adding: “Attacks against health services are a clear violation of international law and the right to health. They must stop,” he said.

Pointing out that the problems experienced in secure access to electricity, food, water and personnel and the decrease in medical supplies, Ghebreyesus stated that this situation makes it almost impossible for health institutions to be able to work when there are thousands of wounded who need emergency care.

FAILED ATTRACTION

Clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan continue despite the parties’ ceasefire decision for the second time yesterday. Clashes in the capital, Khartoum, began around the general command of the army, the Presidential Palace and the airport. Dense smoke rises as gunshots ring out in the area.

As the conflict enters its sixth day, it is not known who violated the ceasefire or if the attacks were mutual. Although the parties announced that they would comply with the international community’s call for a 24-hour ceasefire for humanitarian aid and evacuations on April 18 and yesterday, clashes continued.

Armed clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the HDK paramilitary on the morning of April 15 in Khartoum and other cities, the capital of Sudan. The disagreement between the army and the HDK over the military security reform, which provides for the “full participation of the HDK in the army”, had become a hot-button conflict in recent months.
