Scientific research: Consuming fruits and vegetables against low risk
Scientists at the University of Birmingham in England found a link between the risk of miscarriage and eating habits in a study involving 13,183 women.
The women who participated in the study were asked about their eating habits before and after conception. As a result of the research, it was determined that a diet based on fruits and vegetables halved the risk of miscarriage. Eating too many processed foods has been said to double the risk of miscarriage.
In the study, it was claimed that consuming too many vegetables reduced the risk of miscarriage by 41 percent, while consuming grains, dairy products, eggs and shellfish reduced the risk of miscarriage. The experts said that a balanced diet is also very important for a healthy pregnancy process.
“YOU MAY HAVE AN ABORTION IN 1 IN 6 PREGNANCIES”
The scientists also said that eating processed foods, especially convenience foods, chips and chocolate, affects the risk of miscarriage. Researcher Dr Yealin Chung said: “A miscarriage is a very common occurrence. 1 in 6 pregnancies end in miscarriage. There are many known causes. Like smoking cigarettes, changing eating habits and consuming alcohol. Our recommendation is a healthy and balanced diet.”
While the research claimed that vegetables and fruits were beneficial, dairy products were claimed to contribute to the development of the fetus. While it was emphasized that raw fish should be avoided, it was also claimed that cooked fish is high in protein and omega-3s.
