$7 million reward for Hezbollah leader
In a written statement from the ministry, “The US Department of State’s Rewards for Justice Program is dedicated to identifying, locating, detaining and/or capturing key Hezbollah leader Ibrahim Akil today in the 40th anniversary of of the attack on the US Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, announced that it will offer a $7 million reward to anyone who provides information leading to his conviction.” Statements were included.
In the statement, it was claimed that İbrahim Akil, also known by the code name Tahsin, served in the Jihad Council, Hezbollah’s highest military unit.
Hezbollah, responsible for the attack on the US Embassy in Beirut on April 18, 1983, which killed 63 people, and the attack on the US Navy headquarters on October 23, 1983, in which 241 American soldiers and 58 French soldiers died. The statement, said to be a leading member of the Islamic Jihad-affiliated “Islamic Jihad Organization,” alleges that the said Hezbollah leader also played a role in the kidnapping of American and German hostages in the decade from 1980.
The United States Department of the Treasury placed Akil on the Special Sanctions List on July 21, 2015.
Subsequently, on September 10, 2019, the US State Department added Akil to its Special Global Terrorists List. (AA)
