Leader of the Ennahda Movement detained in Tunisia
The leader of the Ennahda Movement and former speaker of the parliament Rashid al-Gannouchi in Tunis was said to have been detained after security forces raided his home.
Refik Abdusselam, one of the executive cadres of the Ennahda Movement and a former foreign minister, announced that Ghannouchi was arrested after the raid on his home. In a written statement by the Ennahda Movement, it called on the opposition in the country to “unite online against violations and oppressive practices against the rights and freedoms of opposition politicians.”
The statement condemned Ghannouchi’s arrest as a “quite dangerous event” and demanded the immediate release of the Ennahda leader. On the other hand, Mosaiqu FM radio reported on Ghannouchi’s arrest that “a video recording was taken of a conversation he had with the leaders of the National Liberation Front to question her in the context of the leak.”
SEARCH IN THE PARTY BUILDING
It was reported that the Ennahda Movement Headquarters building was evacuated by security forces for a search.
The Ennahda Movement’s political advisor, Riyadh al-Shuaybi, issued a written statement about the search at its headquarters in the capital Tunis. In his statement, Şuaybi said: “The search of the security forces at the Ennahda Movement headquarters is a clear violation of party activities and freedom of association. “Our headquarters was evacuated by the security forces for a few days for a search,” he said.
