According to the official Kuwaiti news agency KUNA, Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah delivered a televised address on behalf of Emir Sheikh Nawaf of Kuwait.

Crown Prince Meshal, in his speech, stated that what happened on the political stage bothers them as much as it does the people.

Stating that they have decided to dissolve the Assembly and hold general elections in the coming months, in accordance with the will of the people and based on Article 107 of the Constitution, Meshal emphasized that this will be accompanied by the promulgation of a series of political laws. . and legal reforms that will take the state to a new stage of discipline and legal reference.

The Emirate Decree on the establishment of a new government consisting of 14 ministers under the presidency of Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Sabah was published in Kuwait on April 9.

CANCELLATION OF THE LAST ELECTIONS TO THE PARLIAMENT IN KUWAIT

Kuwait’s Crown Prince Meshal dissolved parliament in August 2022 “due to incompatibility between MPs”, and early elections were held in the country in September 2022.

However, on March 19, the Constitutional Court decided to cancel the 2022 general elections on the grounds that the decision to dissolve parliament was “illegal”.

The high court ruled that the parliament must continue with the members elected in the previous election, that is, in 2020.

Merzuk al-Ganim, who returned to the presidency of the National Assembly after the Constitutional Court’s decision to restore the abolished parliament in 2020, gave the message of “new elections” at the press conference he held on March 21.
