They find stuffed migrants in a truck with Turkish license plates
Hungarian police found 17 migrants suffocated in the back of a truck with Turkish license plates in a region close to the southern border and received immediate medical attention.
In the statement, it was stated that the migrants, 16 of whom were Egyptians and one Libyan, were rescued by taking swift action on the notice of the Romanian authorities. Police detained the Turkish human smuggler as he called an ambulance after stopping the truck near the town of Kistelek.
In February, 18 Afghan migrants were found dead in an abandoned truck on a road near the Bulgarian capital, Sofia.
Thousands of people fleeing regions of war and poverty in the Middle East, Africa and Asia are trying to reach Europe through the Balkans. Although there is a fence on Hungary’s southern border with Serbia, migrants continue to try to cross into Western Europe through Hungary. (Reuters)
