America Arrests Suspect for Leaking Confidential Documents Related articles

The US FBI has arrested a suspect who may be responsible for the recent leaks of classified intelligence documents about the war in Ukraine. The New York Times and the Guardian report it, among others.

It would be 21-year-old Jack Teixeira, a member of an Air Force reserve unit in the state of Massachusetts, who works at an air base. He was said to be responsible for a closed chat group of several dozen young people on the Discord messaging service, where the documents were posted. The FBI was looking for him.

According to The Guardian, the news was confirmed by US Attorney General Merrick Garland. Teixeira is said to have led Thug Shaker Central, an online group where about 20-30 people share their love of guns, racist memes and video games.

Widely distributed

Widely disseminated online, the leaked documents revealed secrets about Ukraine’s preparations for a spring counteroffensive, US espionage on allies such as South Korea and Israel, and tensions between Washington and allied capitals over arming Kiev.

US President Joe Biden previously said he was not concerned about the leak. “I’m worried it happened. But there’s nothing I know of that has major implications.”
