Number of equal men and women in the New Zealand cabinet
In New Zealand, equality in the number of men and women in the cabinet was achieved for the first time in history, with the appointment of MP Willow-Jean Prime, of Maori origin, as minister.
According to the BBC report, Northland MP Prime has been appointed as a minister. Thus, the figure of 10 men and 10 women in the cabinet has been reached.
“It’s great to have a cabinet that reflects the people of New Zealand,” Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said in a statement.
Continuing to maintain the number of young ministers in the island nation’s cabinet, Prime Minister Hipkins stated that he was appointed as a minister thanks to the talent and successful resume of the Prime Minister. With Prime’s appointment, the number of ministers of Māori origin in the cabinet increased to 6.
In the 2020 elections for the country’s 120-member parliament, 58 women were elected. (AA)
