UN grain broker statement: ‘No ships were inspected yesterday’

The United Nations (UN) announced that no ships were inspected yesterday under Ukraine’s Black Sea Grain Agreement as “the parties need more time to agree on operational priorities” and stated that inspections will start again. from today.

“We call on all parties to meet their responsibilities so that ships can continue to transit smoothly and safely in the interest of global food security,” said UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric.

The grain corridor agreement allowed Ukraine, one of the world’s top grain producers, which was at war with Russia, to resume grain exports, which had been halted due to the war, and lowered world food prices. .

All ships entering and leaving Ukraine are inspected in Turkish waters by officials from Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN. However, due to logistical constraints, ships must wait their turn to be inspected.

UN spokesman Dujarric said: “This critically important work is taking place while the war and active attacks continue in the rear. We do not underestimate the challenges, but we know that they can be overcome. “The UN team is working closely with all parties, taking into account the concerns of all parties,” he said. (Reuters)
