They took advantage of the earthquake: They sent weapons under the name of help
After the earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people on February 6, a notable claim came from the British media…
Sources speaking to the UK-based Reuters news agency said that after the quake, weapons were sent to Syria under the name of aid. Weapons and military equipment were claimed to be included in packages that appeared to be aid supplies for Iran, which has supported the Damascus administration for more than 10 years when the war and internal turmoil began.
The earthquakes that took place on February 6 caused great destruction in Türkiye and Syria.
“Nine Syrian, Iranian, Israeli and Western sources said Iran sent weapons and military equipment to its strategic ally Syria by plane, which it used to ship earthquake relief packages and supplies,” the report said. Sources speaking to Reuters also stated that the purpose of sending these weapons was to increase Iran’s defense against Israel in Syria and to strengthen Syrian leader Bashar Assad.
It was noted that after the earthquake, hundreds of Iranian planes went from Iran to Syrian airports in Aleppo, Damascus and Latakia, and this process continued for 7 weeks. In addition to weapons, it was claimed that spare parts of advanced communication equipment, radar systems and air defense systems supplied by Iran were sent to Syria.
“IRAN MADE THE REVOLUTIONARY GUARDS”
Iran’s representation at the United Nations in New York denied the claim, while the Syrian government did not comment. It was emphasized that the reason for the high tension on the Israel-Iran-Syria line in the recent period was that Israel was aware of this shipment.
An Israeli official, who did not disclose his name, said: “A lot of ammunition and military equipment was sent to Syria under the pretext of earthquake aid. The delivery was mainly to Aleppo, in northern Syria. “The shipment was made by the Quds Forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard,” he said.
