Terror alert ahead of Biden’s visit to Northern Ireland! Bombs found in cemetery
According to the British media report, a handmade bomb placed in a pipe was found in the Creggan cemetery in the city of Londonderry, where the acts of violence occurred on Monday.
In the search carried out in the cemetery, which was closed to visitors, 3 more artisanal bombs were seized.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said in a statement that the bombs were defused.
OCCASIONS OF VIOLENCE OCCURRING BEFORE THE VISIT
Four hand-made bombs were found hours before the start of a visit by US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to Northern Ireland.
Biden and Sunak, who visited the region on the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, which ended separatist terror incidents and intersecting conflicts that began in Northern Ireland since the 1960s, will arrive in Belfast today.
Sunak and Biden will meet today and tomorrow in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, and will participate in various commemorations organized as part of the anniversary of the agreement.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Two weeks before Biden’s visit, MI5, the UK’s internal intelligence agency, had raised the terror threat level in Northern Ireland to “serious”.
A memorial service was held in Londonderry on Monday. Pro-republican parties held an act to commemorate the “Easter Revolt” of 1916, during the act, which the police declared unauthorized, foreign substances and Molotov cocktails were thrown at a police car during the demonstration. (AA)
