In a press release, Christian Estrosi said he was “very concerned” about the idea of hundreds of FCB fans on the streets of his city.
Estrosi speaks from experience, because in September the stadium in the south of France had a big argument with the visitors of 1. FC Köln. He also doesn’t have a good opinion of the Basel fans. “Last year they had violent clashes in Marseille,” he recalls. “Their reputation is ahead of them. They come in large numbers and love the fiery atmosphere.”
In Switzerland, Basel fans have also attracted negative attention recently. Four employees of a security company were seriously injured in the unrest after losing the cup semi-final against YB last week in Basel’s St. Jakob Park.
