Ukraine may impose sanctions on Syria for 50 years
According to the written statement made by the Ministry, the Cabinet decided to submit proposals to impose economic sanctions on Syria for approval by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
In his speech at the Cabinet, Minister Sviridenko said that the full support given to the “Putin regime” of Syria for the involvement of Syrian ships in the illegal export of grain from the territory of Ukraine under Russian control, the recognition of the called the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, and the supply to Russia of weapons used in attacks on Ukraine.
Noting that the list of “hostile” steps by Syria towards Ukraine is long, Sviridenko said: “Our state is undoubtedly reacting to them.” saying.
Recalling that Ukraine imposed sanctions on Bashar Assad and other Syrian administrators, Sviridenko recalled that Ukraine ended diplomatic relations with Syria and canceled previously signed bilateral agreements.
“The government has offered a tough but certainly adequate response to Syria’s position today. This is the implementation of sectoral sanctions against the country for a period of 50 years,” Sviridenko said, adding that the issue of economic relations with Syria will be closed for a long time.
,SANCTIONS PROHIBIT IMPORT AND EXPORT OPERATIONS
The government-backed sanctions provide for a ban on import and export operations with Syrian citizens and companies, investments in the Syrian regime.
The sanction proposal, which provides for a total ban on transportation, flights and transportation of Syrian citizens through the territory of Ukraine, includes stopping the fulfillment of economic and financial obligations in favor of Syrian citizens and preventing them from withdrawing capital from Ukraine.
The sanctions stipulate the prohibition of the registration of international payment systems, of which Syria is the operator, of the National Bank of Ukraine, the transfer of rights to technologies and intellectual property objects to Syrian citizens.
The government-approved sanctions against Syria are expected to take effect after approval by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the president. (AA)
