Russia is gaining more and more success in the battle for Bachmut against the Ukraine. The western bank of the river that runs through the city is owned by Russia, according to the British Ministry of Defence. This would put the supply of the Ukrainian army at risk.
The Ukrainian army would also be expelled from the city center, the same ministry said. “Russia has made further gains and is now most likely advancing towards the city center. The main supply route from Ukraine (…) west of the city is likely to be under serious threat,” the ministry said.
Russia pays ‘a high price’
Ukraine admits the army is having “hard times” in the city and that Russia has had “tactical successes” in some places. But the Russian military would pay a “high price” for it. «The situation is difficult, the enemy is making every effort to conquer Bachmut. However, Russia suffers heavy losses and does not achieve strategic success.’
According to Western analysts, both sides are suffering heavy losses in the battle for Bachmut. Ukraine has previously stated that for every Ukrainian fighter who dies, ten Russian soldiers die.
