An angry Donald Trump has lashed out in a speech against the judge and prosecutor who are hearing his case. He did so just hours after his arraignment, in which he was charged with 34 offences. Trump says the investigations are an attempt by Democrats to influence the upcoming election.
Trump says he is innocent of the 34 charges against him. He sees the whole trial against him as a political witch hunt, although according to the American correspondent Jan Postma, he thinks so of many investigations that are being carried out against him. “He too puts this case in the queue of other investigations that are already underway. All politics and attempts by Democrats to eliminate him for the next presidential election, according to Trump ”.
Safety
Prosecutor Alvin Bragg was the first to take a beating during his speech. “Trump has been in discussions with this for some time,” Postma said. Trump thought that not he, but Bragg should be prosecuted. He accuses Bragg of leaking information from the grand jury, but he doesn’t provide any evidence.’
Like Bragg, the judge who heard his case also had to pay for it in Trump’s speech. His family was also attacked. The judge’s daughter is quoted and even posted with a photo on social media by Trump’s children. She is striking, because the judge said a few hours earlier that she had to hold back a bit, because this type of statement is detrimental to the safety of various people. Bragg has already received at least one death threat.’
Angry
According to Postma, the most surprising thing is that yesterday Trump was visibly angry, while before there was still a lot of bravado from his camp. “You could see this really affected him, he was clearly not having a good day. He had previously speculated that he would say something to fans and the media in New York, but he immediately re-boarded the plane to go home.
“You’ve heard from legal experts that this isn’t a race at all. ‘
It also affects the public who had then gathered at Mar-a-lago, Trump’s country residence. “We only saw Trump-wing Republicans there, the most extreme types like Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor-Greene. There were no traditional Republicans. Surprisingly enough, Melania Trump wasn’t there either, and we didn’t even see her in New York.’
Accusation
The red line in the accusations against Trump is that the former president allegedly paid several people for silence, and then hid it in his administration. Prosecutor Bragg explicitly makes a connection with the elections, explains Postma. “Payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, for example, were made at the end of the 2016 election campaign. Bragg sees this as withholding information from the American voter and believes this occurred structurally.”
Criticism of the prosecutor’s story is being heard not only from the Trump camp. According to Postma, Bragg says the case involves serious crimes, but doesn’t explain how he came to that conclusion. “You’ve heard from legal experts that this isn’t a race at all. It could potentially become very painful. Because it’s a historical process under enormous political tension, so there’s a lot of tension about how Bragg is going to pull this off.”
