Israeli police raid Masjid al-Aqsa
After the tarawih prayer, a group of Palestinians took refuge in the Qibla Masjid inside Masjid al-Aqsa, after fanatical Jewish settlers called for a raid on Masjid al-Aqsa due to the holy holiday of Passover and the sacrifices there .
The group, which included women and children, closed the doors of the Qibla Masjid. Israeli police entered the courtyard of Masjid al-Aqsa and forcefully removed the cleaners and Muslims, and closed the Aqsa gates.
Surrounding the Qibla Masjid, the Israeli police climbed to the roof of the mosque, broke some of the temple’s windows and first intervened with sound bombs on the people inside. Some members of the group in the Masjid tried to resist the Israeli police by launching fireworks. The Israeli police then entered the Qibla Masjid and intervened with sound bombs, tear gas and rubber-coated bullets.
Images of Israeli police beating the group, including women, who took refuge in the mosque with batons, were shared on social media.
The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that many people were injured in the incident and that medical teams moved towards Aksa to respond to the injured. In its second statement, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society claimed that the Israeli police prevented medical teams from responding to the injured. Eyewitnesses reported that many were injured in the incident.
Israeli police announced that dozens of people were detained in the incident. The Israeli police installed iron barricades on the roads leading to Masjid al-Aqsa in the Old City area and sent many reinforcements to the area.
On the other hand, eyewitnesses reported that after the Israeli police raid, incidents broke out between Israeli police and Palestinians around the gates of Masjid al-Aqsa.
After the Israeli police raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque, calls were made from some mosques in East Jerusalem for Palestinians to come to Aqsa. It has been reported that buses are moving to perform the morning prayer in Aksa, in the northern regions of Israel, where Palestinians, who are Israeli citizens, live.
Tensions are rising in East Jerusalem as fanatical Jewish settlers in occupied East Jerusalem are calling for a raid by Jews on Masjid al-Aqsa due to holy Passover (Passover) and making sacrifices there.
In the coalition government established by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in late 2022 in Israel, names like Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, known for their racist actions and speeches against Palestinians and supporters of Jewish settlers, were appointed to positions critics.
Ben-Gvir made statements supporting the raid of Jewish settlers on Masjid al-Aqsa. (AA)
