Impressive Erdogan and US-Based CNN Election Commentary

Ahead of the May 14 elections, notable comments from the international public and the media continue to pour in…

The US-based media organization CNN, while publishing an analysis/commentary on the elections in Turkey, drew attention to a group of voters who will be voting in the elections. In the article, titled “Turkey’s Kurds May Determine Erdogan’s Political Fate”, the article commented: “The Kurdish party in Turkey has become the party that will determine the winner of the upcoming elections and can play a role that will balance to President Erdogan of 20 years of power”.

The article states: “The most critical development against the Turkish president and AKP leader was the HDP’s announcement last month that it would not nominate its own candidates. Many pundits say this move will pave the way for HDP supporters to vote for Erdogan’s main rival. Commenting on this situation as “irony”, CNN said: “This is an irony for Erdoğan, who is against the party because he has received half the votes of the electorate in the last 10 years. Former HDP leader Selahattin Demirtaş, he has been in prison for almost 7 years and the party is likely to shut down. However, the party’s influence may affect the course of Turkish politics.

“THE STRONGEST CANDIDATE AGAINST ERDOGAN…”

While drawing attention to the fact that Nation Alliance presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu announced the HDP’s decision not to nominate a candidate after visiting the HDP, he said: “Kılıçdaroğlu is the strongest candidate to face Erdoğan in recent years. The HDP has not announced that he will give it all his power, but experts say that this party will determine the winner of the elections.

CNN interpreted the relationship between President Erdogan and the HDP as “complicated”. It was claimed that Erdogan gave more rights to the Kurds in the first years that he took office and that he was in close contact with the HDP.
