57 people were dead! Train services resume in Greece

The train leaving Athens passed through Tempi, where the accident occurred, and arrived at Thessaloniki.

In the train with around 100 passengers, the Minister of State for Infrastructure and Transport, Yorgos Yeropetritis, and senior officials of the Organization of Greek Railways (OSE) and the “Hellenic Train” Company were also traveling.

Security measures are expected to be tightened, including increasing the number of personnel on future flights.

EVENT

57 people, mostly university students, died in the accident that occurred on Tuesday, February 28, at 11:20 p.m. local time, in the Tempi region, 26 kilometers from the city of Larisa.

The accident revealed the lack of infrastructure and safety systems on the Greek railways and the negligence provoked reactions.

Due to reactions and safety concerns, all train services were canceled after the accident. (AA)
