US Ambassador Flake: The world pays its debt to Turkey

US Ambassador to Ankara Jeff Flake participated in the distribution of meals for earthquake victims by Work Central Kitchen, a US-based charity in the earthquake-hit İslahiye district . Ambassador Jeff Flake passed behind the stand, and after delivering food to the victims of the earthquake, he met with the directors of the association and obtained information about his work.

“USA. COMMITTED $235 MILLION TO HELP”

Jeff Flake, in his statement, said that after the earthquake disasters, mobilization began around the world. He said that the US government has committed $235 million in aid since the beginning of the earthquake disasters and has distributed part of it, but much more than intergovernmental aid is needed in such a disaster. Jeff Flake said:

* “After the earthquakes, the commitment of the United States was to be here as long as necessary. And we keep this promise. I am very happy to work with our Turkish partners on these studies.

* Since the beginning of the earthquake disasters, the US government has declared $235 million in aid and distributed part of it. But of course, a disaster like this requires much more than intergovernmental help. For this reason, it is very encouraging to see the help provided by the American private sector.

* To date, with the participation of the US private sector and NGOs, I think about $120 million in aid has been raised. This is a good example of how effective it is for both the private sector and individuals to help each other. A few days after the earthquake, representatives of the founder of the world cooking center were here.

* I had the opportunity to speak with him. He was in seismic zones. I am very pleased to see the beautiful work here today. Especially these days, during Ramadan, these activities take on more importance.

* Because it is important that fasting people eat the foods they are used to. World Center Kitchen does exactly this job here. They distribute dishes that people know they know, using local ingredients.”

“THE WORLD PAYING ITS DEBT TO Türkiye”

Ambassador Flake stated that Turkey has helped more than 50 countries on 5 continents in natural disasters in the past and said that now “the world has paid its debt to Turkey” regarding aid from all over the world.

Flake said: “When I met with the senators and former colleagues in Washington DC a few weeks ago, they asked me if the disasters in Turkey had received adequate assistance. I answered ‘yes’. This is because Turkey has sent natural disaster aid to more than 50 countries on 5 continents. The world is now paying off its debt to Türkiye. Right now, the world is sending generous aid to Turkey, because Turkey has sent aid to other countries with the same generosity in the past.”
