Travel ban on senior Russian officials

As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, pressure from the Kremlin on top officials inside the country increases.

The UK-based media outlet the Financial Times announced that the Kremlin had seized the passports of senior officials. The newspaper reported that this measure was taken to prevent senior officials from fleeing the country and changing sides.

It was claimed that Russian security agencies canceled the authorities’ trips abroad and that data and information about the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin was leaked. Sources who spoke to the newspaper said that the pressure on the elite class in Russia has increased.

Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, also confirmed that foreign travel of employees in some “sensitive” areas has been restricted. Peskov said: “There are strict rules about this. We have been paying more attention to this issue since the special military operation began,” he said.
