Fishing boat sinks in Spain: 2 dead
It was reported that the fishing boat sank in the Cantabrian Sea in northern Spain, 2 of the 10 crew died, 7 were rescued and 1 was missing.
Miguel Angel Revilla, head of the autonomous government of Cantabria, has announced on his social networks that the fishing vessel “Villaboa 1” with a crew of 10 has sunk off Cape Mayor. “Again a new misfortune at sea. At 05:30 this morning, the Villaboa 1 ship based in Santander sank off Cabo Mayor,” Revilla said that 7 fishermen were rescued, 2 bodies were found and 1 person is missing.
In northern Spain, in Galicia and Cantabria, where fishing is an important source of livelihood, nearly 50 fishermen have lost their lives in the last 15 years as a result of their boats sinking due to unfavorable sea conditions. (AA)
