According to attorney Gerard Sprong, the prosecution of former President Donald Trump is “a job that every lawyer looks forward to.” On Friday morning, the Manhattan Grand Jury announced it would prosecute Trump.
Sprong follows the case with suspicion. “It’s a very interesting legal case,” he says. “Not the fact that he bribed a porn star for $130,000. What is surprising is the heavier prosecution that he used campaign money for this and wanted to cover it as normal campaign costs.’
“That would be a violation of electoral law and that’s a pretty serious crime,” Sprong says. In the United States, this carries a maximum prison sentence of four years. Obviously, we don’t know if this accusation was also brought by the public prosecutor”.
Like a beast in the arena
Sprong wonders how Trump will behave if arrested. “He will undoubtedly make a show of it to show that it is a political persecution. Which is dragged around the arena like a beast. Of course it’s delicious.’
“Trump is being dragged into the arena like a beast. This is obviously delicious’
Many lawyers are interested in the case, Sprong admits. ‘She’s a bitch’. How would he have handled it himself? The defense could try to convince the judge that the money came from a private fund. Because it is certain that the hush money has been paid. But if it’s your money you can at least tell the judge: it was my money, what are you interfering with?
