European Parliament President Roberta Metsola arrived in The Hague today for a two-day working visit, during which she wants to find out what Brussels can learn from the electoral victory of the BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB).
According to European journalist Geert Jan Hahn, Metsola is eager to start his research. “There’s a lot of discussion these days about where to meet, Brussels or The Hague,” says Hahn. “But Metsola is happy to be here. Today he spoke with the presidents of the Senate and the House of Representatives and spoke with the students of Leiden ».
According to Hahn, Metsola brought documents regarding the election results to try to find out where the BBB voters came from and what happened to Thierry Baudet. “So it’s really here to do field research,” he says. “He wants to know how the electoral landslide could have occurred in the Netherlands.”

Hahn suspects the fieldwork has to do with the upcoming European elections. “He wants to know if Brussels is doing well, or has done well,” he continues. “He says that he thinks Europe was right to deal with the pandemic, climate measures and Ukraine, especially since sometimes it’s good to make decisions”.
But, Hahn points out, Metsola visits other countries as well. “He also says he will look at all the election results in European countries and what that means for people’s votes.”
