Description of Finland’s ‘Russian spy’
The Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (Supo) reported last year that Russia’s intelligence operations in Finland had been significantly weakened.
In a written statement from Supo, mention was made of the organization’s work against Russian intelligence last year. Antti Pelttari, director of Supo, commented in the statement: “The Russian intelligence agency in Finland was cut in half last year. “The main reason for this decline was the expulsion of intelligence officers on Supo’s advice and the rejection of visa applications,” he said.
In the statement, it was stated that the working conditions of Russian intelligence in Finland have weakened significantly due to the decrease in the number of intelligence officers and the restrictions imposed on crossing the Russian border.
“Operations in the name of diplomacy are the main tool of Russian intelligence abroad. Russia is also trying to use cyber espionage to close the intelligence gap. However, cyber espionage cannot completely replace human intelligence, since it provides information of a different nature. (AA)
