Ukraine is planning a counteroffensive in several areas this spring, in April or May the Ukrainian army will deploy Leopard 2 tanks on the battlefield. This was reported by Sky News based on a performance by Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov on the Estonian television channel ERR. According to Reznikov, Ukraine must defend itself against and contain the Russians. “Then we will go on the counteroffensive.”
Defend, contain, counterattack
“I am sure that we will continue to liberate temporarily occupied areas, such as Kiev, Chernihiv, Sumi, Kharkiv and the Kherson region. All this will continue,” Reznikov said. The minister also said that the country must “defend itself against Russian troops” and “contain them”.
Then we move on to the counteroffensive. For this, we need more ammunition to break through their line of defense”, continued Reznikov. According to the minister, the Leopard 2 tanks will be used in the counter-offensive “after a specific decision by the General Staff”.
Leopard 2 tanks
According to the minister, the offensive is planned ‘in various directions’, but much depends on the weather conditions. ‘In spring our ground is very sticky, so only tracked vehicles can be used. I think Leopard tanks will appear on the battlefield in April-May.’
Even the Russians seem to be preparing for the coming storm. According to the American Enterprise Institute, a US think tank, Russian troops in Crimea are digging new trenches along the access roads to the annexed region.
