Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has said he will not lead the opposition in his country. In an interview with CNN Brasil, Bolsonaro said he will advise his party on how to oppose current president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, but will not take on a leadership role himself.
Bolsonaro made these statements at a Florida airport before boarding a flight to Brazil. It is his first return to Brazil since his defeat in the October elections against Lula. Bolsonaro has indicated that he will travel extensively throughout Brazil to help his party in local elections next year.
“The Mission Isn’t Over Yet”
Earlier, Bolsonaro had indicated that he would return to Brazil to lead the opposition and also hinted at possible participation in the upcoming elections. Speaking at a political rally in the United States, he said he believed “his mission is not over yet”.
