French Interior Minister: We will be considered incompetent if we suspend the pension reform

Darmanin, who was a guest on French radio RTL, made assessments of the pension reform, which for weeks has been causing strikes and massive demonstrations in the country.

Darmanin, “Should the (Pension) Reform be suspended? I don’t think so, otherwise the world will think that we are incapable of reforming ourselves.” He said.

On the same radio yesterday, the general secretary of the French Democratic Federation of Labor (CFDT), Laurent Berger, called for the suspension of the reform.

PENSION REFORM CRISIS

Demonstrations in France, which began on March 16, continue after the government’s decision to pass the bill, which includes raising the retirement age from 62 to 64, without a vote.

Violence is taking place in many parts of the country between protesters and the police, who have violently intervened in the demonstrations.

More than 1,000 people have been detained in protests across the country since March 16. (AA)
