Hungary vetoes Sweden’s entry into NATO
In Hungary, the government spokesman noted that Sweden’s criticism of Hungary caused problems between the two countries and therefore Hungary’s approval of Sweden’s NATO membership might be delayed. The spokesperson made the statement on Twitter.
After months of objections, the Hungarian parliament on Monday approved the law confirming Finland’s membership in NATO. Sweden’s NATO membership bill is pending in parliament.
Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year. The approval of Hungary and Turkey is required for the two countries to become NATO members.
It is controversial that Turkey, which has approved Finland’s accession, has not given Sweden the green light.
