In Lisbon, two people were killed by an attack by a man with a large knife. According to Portuguese media, an Afghan man stabbed people at an Islamic center. Police shot the attacker and took him to hospital.
Both victims are female. According to CNN Portugal, several people were injured, it is not known how many people are involved and in what condition they are. Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa says everything points to the perpetrator acting alone. But he thinks it’s too early to determine what kind of crime it is.
Ismailism
The attack took place in the Ismaili Center, a place for followers of Ismailism, a movement within Islam. This minority is more often the victim of extremist attacks in countries such as Pakistan.
The center is the international headquarters of the Ismaili community, a Shiite Muslim minority led by the millionaire prince Aga Khan. Born in Switzerland, holding a British passport and a Harvard graduate, the aristocrat rules nearly every aspect of community life. Members take an oath of allegiance to him.
