UAV attack on the US base in Syria: there are dead and injured
The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that an Iranian suicide drone (UAV) launched an attack on a facility belonging to the anti-ISIS coalition in the Syrian province of Hasakah, killing 1 contract personnel, 1 contract personnel and 5 US soldiers were wounded in the attack.
In a Pentagon statement, it was announced that a suicide drone struck a maintenance facility belonging to the anti-ISIS coalition around 1:30 p.m. local time yesterday. In the statement, it was reported that 1 contract personnel working with the US were killed and 1 contract personnel and 5 US soldiers were injured as a result of the attack.
The statement said that the treatment of two wounded soldiers was carried out in the field, and the other three soldiers and contract personnel were transferred to coalition medical facilities in Iraq.
US RESPONSE TO IRAN
In the statement, which noted that intelligence assessed that the drone in question belonged to Iran, the assessment by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was also criticized. “At the direction of President (Joe) Biden, I have authorized US Central Command forces to launch airstrikes against facilities used by groups associated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Army (IDM),” Austin said. “This attack was carried out in response to today’s attack, as well as a series of recent attacks against Coalition forces in Syria by groups associated with the DMO.”
Noting that the US attack was carried out to protect US personnel, Austin noted that the attack was a proportional attack to reduce the risk of an escalation of tensions. (AA)
