VNO-NCW President Ingrid Thijssen says in an interview with De Telegraaf that the Netherlands has partly created the problem itself. “The BoerBurgerBeweging and other parties have long rightly demanded that we shouldn’t be blindsided by years and percentages,” says Thijssen.

As an example, he mentions the so-called critical deposition value and the use of model-based nitrogen calculation. According to her, Brussels does not oblige the Netherlands to cooperate. ‘Now all new projects are evaluated equally. While we want ecologists to determine whether a certain amount of nitrogen in a certain area leads to significant deterioration of nature.’
The president points out in De Telegraaf that the Netherlands has been “stuck for almost four years” and that some entrepreneurs cannot continue because there is no room for nitrogen. “And it’s only getting worse, with the low point being the whole province of North Brabant said a few weeks ago: We won’t be granting any more permits.”
