Strikes in France cause fuel shortages

As in many sectors against the pension reform in France, 13.1% of the country’s gas stations cannot be served due to the strike of the refinery workers.

According to the country’s press reports, there are fuel shortages in 34 regions of France. Due to fuel shortages caused by the refinery workers’ strike, long queues began to form at the station entrances.

Although TotalEnergies, which owns a third of the country’s gas stations, has announced that it has taken steps to address gasoline and diesel shortages, fuel shortages are expected to further increase due to prolonged strikes.

Tomorrow the ninth of massive strikes and demonstrations against the pension reform will take place in the country. Millions of people are expected to attend the demonstrations across the country.

Serious disruptions are expected in many sectors, including transport and energy, due to strikes and protests.

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced on March 16 that she had put into effect the constitutional clause allowing a bill to pass without a vote in parliament for the controversial pension reform bill.

Although protests and demonstrations were organized in the country after the decision, the unions decided to continue the strikes in many sectors. (AA)
