Police raid on group of Imperial Citizens in Germany
A special operations policeman was injured in a clash that broke out in one of the raids against members of the far-right group Imperial Citizens (Reichsbürger) in 7 states of Germany.
It was claimed that a special task force officer from Baden-Württemberg, who wanted to search a suspect’s apartment in Reutlingen under the direction of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, was slightly injured by shots opened by the suspect. It was noted that the Karlsruhe General Prosecutor’s Office considered the case an attempted murder and took over the investigation.
Although the property where the apartment where the event occurred was closed with security tape by the police, it was announced that there was no danger to the people who live in the vicinity.
According to the national intelligence report, the number of people who consider themselves German citizens of the Reichsbürger is around 23,000. According to the report, whose 2,100 members are willing to use violence, the group does not recognize Germany as a legitimate state. Some members argue that Germany is still under military occupation.
25 suspects, who were detained during the raids on the grounds that they were preparing for a coup in December 2022, await the day they will be tried for belonging to a terrorist organization. (AA)
