US sanctions on Turkish citizens

The US Treasury Department has sanctioned four organizations and three individuals for their role in providing parts and equipment for Iran’s weapons and drone programs. There is also a person and a company from Turkey among those sanctioned.

According to Voice of America news, four organizations and three individuals from Iran and Turkey have been placed on the sanctions list for interfering with the supply of parts and equipment, including European-sourced UAV motors, to support Iran’s unmanned aviation. . vehicle and weapons programs. In the statement, “This supply network operates on behalf of the Ministry of Defense and Logistics of the Iranian Armed Forces. This ministry oversees many companies engaged in ballistic missile and UAV development activities.

The Iran-based Defense Science and Technology Research Center and Amanallah Paydar, who is said to be the center’s business manager and purchasing representative, have been placed on the US sanctions list. The US Department of Finance also sanctioned Iranian national Asgar Mahmudi and front company Selin Teknik for their role in supplying parts and equipment to Paydar and the Defense Technology and Scientific Research Center.

THE TURKISH COMPANY IS ON THE SANCTIONS LIST

The Finance Ministry announced that the company, which entered Turkey’s sanctions list, is called the Izmir-based Ozon Aerospace and Defense Industry Trade Joint Stock Company.

The ministry also accused Turkish national Murat Bükey, who was on the sanctions list, of facilitating the supply of various defense products, including chemical and biological detection devices, to Amanallah Paydar.

Separately, the federal district court in the capital, Washington, announced two counts indicting several defendants, including Bukey, for their role in plans to supply and export US technology to Iran between 2005 and 2013.

Bükey was detained at the Barcelona airport in September 2021 at the request of US prosecutors, suspected of selling ballistic missiles and fuel cells that could be used in biodetection in Iran, imported from the US in 2012 and 2013. The Spanish court decided extradite Bükey to the United States in April of last year, and the extradition occurred in July.

Bükey pleaded guilty in December. In the statement of the Ministry of Justice, it was reported that Bükey was sentenced yesterday to 28 months in prison in the federal district court. Considering the time he served, Bükey will be deported from the US after serving his sentence.
