Russian retaliation for arrest warrant against Putin
Russia filed a lawsuit with the International Criminal Court (ICC), which issued an arrest warrant for President Vladimir Putin.
The ICC announced that as part of its investigation into crimes committed in Ukraine, an arrest warrant was issued for Russian President Putin and Russia’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, for war crimes. The decision, supported by Ukraine and the United States, provoked a great reaction in Russia.
The Investigative Committee of Russia announced today that a lawsuit has been filed against the prosecutor and ICC judges. In the statement, it was indicated that the case was opened against the arrest warrant against Putin, and that the accusations against the Russian leader were completely unfounded.
The committee argued that the arrest warrant against Putin was aimed at disrupting international relations.
Russia is not party to the ICC agreements.
