Election countdown has begun: iPhone ban for state officials

Election preparation from the Kremlin: Apple’s iPhone is banned

In the shadow of the war, there was a notable move by Russia, which was preparing to go to the polls in 2024 to choose a new president.

In the story that the British news agency Reuters based on the Russian newspaper Kommersant, it turned out that the Kremlin instructed the authorities “not to use iPhones produced by Apple.”

The sources told Kommersant that the Kremlin informed the authorities and demanded that they change their phones by April 1. At the meeting, the officials said: “The era of the iPhone is over. Throw it away or give it to children. Make this change in March,” he said.

The officials also stated that iPhones are vulnerable to attacks and interventions by Western intelligence units. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not provide a clear answer to a question on the matter. “Smartphones are not officially to be used,” Peskov said. No smartphone has a transparent mechanism, both Android and iOS. Therefore, it should not be used for official functions.”

In the Kommersant news, it was also claimed that this instruction was given to the people in charge of Russia’s internal affairs. In the past, Peskov has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not have a smartphone, but announced that he spends time on the Internet from time to time.
