Country in shock… Elections cancelled, former deputies returned to parliament

The country is in a state of shock… Elections cancelled, former deputies returned to parliament

According to news from Kuwait’s official KUNA news agency, the Constitutional Court ruled that the elections held on September 29, 2022 be annulled and the membership of the declared winners of the elections declared null and void.

The court stated that “the decision to dissolve parliament in 2020 is invalid” as the reason for the annulment decision.

The 2020 parliament, which was dissolved by said Constitutional Court decision, will be considered “not extinct”.

In Kuwait, the parliament established in December 2020 was dissolved due to repeated disagreements between the Assembly and the government. Kuwait’s Crown Prince Meshal al-Ahmed al-Jaber es-Sabah also announced on June 22, 2022 that early elections would be held in the country. (AA)
