Affirming that Republicans in the House of Representatives have the power to intervene in this situation, Greenene pointed out that the Justice Department budget could be suspended.

Matt Gaetz, one of Trump’s supporters in the House of Representatives, tweeted: “Campaign Finance Violation is about illegally spending other people’s money or taking money you shouldn’t have on your campaign. Trump did not none of this. He used his own money, which is not related to the campaign, for special treatment.”

Texas Rep. Chip Roy, a Republican who endorsed Ron DeSantis for the 2024 presidential nomination, also made statements supporting Trump on Twitter.
